Compounding
Compounding is the preparation of customized medications to fit the unique needs of a patient. This may be done for medically necessary reasons, such as:
  • Changing the form of a medication from a solid pill to a liquid
  • To avoid an inactive ingredient that the patient is allergic to
  • To obtain a more precise or "exact" dose that is needed
  • Voluntary reasons, such as adding favorite flavors to a medication
